Cottage Development Tree Protection Plan

Our Certified Arborists conducted a tree inventory and developed a Tree Conservation Plan and supplemental Tree Protection Plan for a unique forested, cottage development within the City of Port Townsend. A ½ acre forested property was planned for development of 6-7 single-family tiny homes, or cottages as identified in Port Townsend Municipal Code. In collaboration with project superintendent and architect, our team inventoried trees, identified trees with high potential for survival post development, high retention benefit, and trees that conflicted with designs or had low retention benefit.

Our team was asked to incorporate the i-Tree valuation model developed by the U.S. Forest Service to numerically quantify ecosystem services provided by the conserved trees. Air quality and water quality improvements via carbon sequestration, particulate interception, and rain/storm-water buffering were incorporated into our reports.

Port Townsend reduced stormwater credits required for the development due to protected trees and preserved ecosystem services.

“I’m looking forward to working with you on this project, the drone imagery, the pacific madrones, and the mycology projects.”
-Darryl S. of Port Townsend – Developer – January 2017.
